We extended the Bush tax cuts and re-enacted a "cushy" estate tax so all the politicans could deflect attention away from the 700 Billion in tax cuts and instead act like the estate tax compromise that will cost about 35 billion is a big deal. They know we're all ADD and penny wise and pound foolish. And for the record, the estate tax IS double taxation and is a government method of re-distributing the wealth. That's the only reason for it to exist.
We got rid of don't ask don't tell in favor of you can ask if you want and we might tell you even if you'd rather not know, just because now we can.
Most of us out here can't figure out why this issue gets so much press at a time when there are bigger fish to fry...and for those that really would like to know why this is, it's because it's an issue taht will cause a big distraction without offending a statistically significant portion of the population either way.
No dream act, so innocent kids that got here because their parents brought them, and who have worked hard and done well and kept their noses clean still can't stay if anyone finds them out. Personally I wish we could just deport troublemakers, citizen or no, and keep the good folks, citizen or no.
There was more, but the truly big news is that every man, woman, and child in the country just assumed another $3000 of national debt.
Merry Christmas!

WikiLeaks Attempts to Expose Palin’s Thoughts, Finds Nothing
Hacking Former Governor’s Brain Proves Fruitless
NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report) – WikilLeaks has finally met its match.
That’s the bombshell from fugitive founder Julian Assange, who said that after months of hacking former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s brain, WikiLeaks has come up empty.
“I challenge the best hackers in the business to have a look inside,” he said, speaking from an undisclosed location. “There’s nothing there.”

election day
today is the day we give the country back to the people who have been intent on stealing it. well hey, why make it hard on them?
we got Democrats who can't agree on diddly, republican who only agree on the idea that all wealth should be in their hands, and tea baggers who are intent on slitting their own throats.
what strange days we live in.

I took a quiz to see what I am,politically speaking. Surprised?
You are a New Left Hipster, also known as a MoveOn.org liberal, a Netroots activist, or a Daily Show fanatic. You believe that if we really want to defend American values, conservative hatriots must be exposed and mocked for every fanatical, puritanical, paranoid, fact-allergic, reality-challenged, obstructionist ideal for which they stand.

WTF?
Your papers, please.
Sure we let anyone carry a concealed weapon.
If someone shoots you, be sure to take 57000 chickens to the emergency room to pay your bill.
this country is getting scary stoopid.

I gave a wannaabe Congressman $25. He send a thankyou. I sent this back.
Now - I want to see you and anyone else who wants to be in Congress start talking about the wonderful health care members of Congress have provided one another, and I want to know why people who work for me have such cushy plans that I can't get at any price.
As it stands now, I think I'm either going to have to run for Congress or rob a bank. Those may be my only two choices if I want a decent health care plan. What's ironic is these days is that most citizens don't make much of a disctinction between a member of congress and an inmate in the federal corrections system. They both get great health care, and most people think they're all crooks.

Isn't it Ironic, Indeed?
From Yahoo News
Palin Crossed Border For Canadian Health Care
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care -- admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada's single-payer system.
"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," Palin said in her first Canadian appearance since stepping down as governor of Alaska. "And I think now, isn't that ironic?"
The irony, one guesses, is that Palin now views Canada's health care system as revolting: with its government-run administration and 'death-panel'-like rationing. Clearly, however, she and her family once found it more alluring than, at the very least, the coverage available in rural Alaska. Up to the age of six, Palin lived in a remote town near the closest Canadian city, Whitehorse.
Officials at several hospitals in that area declined to give out information on patient visits.

Life Panels or Death Panels
The FOX talking heads keep talking about death panels. The original issue was should we pay doctors to discuss with seniors and their families the ramifications of their decisions when creating a living will, which every adult should have unless they like the idea of being a vegetable on life support forever, bankrupting their family while they linger in the land of the brain dead but still warm.
Want to know about a death panel?
Here's one. A health insurance company that drops a loyal customer becaue they got a serious life threatening illness. No insurance - no treatment. Try to get another policy when you are already diagnosed with a serious illness. Been there done that. You can get one but it won't cover anything that could be in any way remotely connected to the pre-existing illness, even if you have been deemed cured for over 5 years according to real live medical doctors instead of insurance clerks. Once you get sick and lose that first policy you're just flat out of luck, buddy. And if you think you can't get sick you're not living in the sane world. Happens to healthy people every day. One day you're doing fine and the next a doc says malignant and your world just changed bigtime.
Here's another one. A health insurance company refusing to pay for procedures that the medical establishment has deemed necessary and appropriate for the treatment of many illnesses. My policy includes an annual checkup. One of the 2 covered doctor visits a year I can make. Doesn't cover a basic blood panel workup tho, so all they really cover is the doc taking my weight pulse listening to my heart and lungs and telling me to turn my head and cough. How's my cholesterol and all that stuff? Who knows? Can't tell anything important like that without bloodwork.
At the end of the day, it's health insurance companies who decide medical care in this country. People say they don't want government getting between them and their doctor. Well guess what? Government looks pretty good for those of us who have been buying retail for awhile. If you have insurance through your job you are fortunate. If you lose your job you will find that COBRA will cost you about 3-4 times what you have been paying, and any other retail policy will be just about as bad. who can afford to triple their health insurance bill when they just became unemployed?
Geez I could rant forever. thee's so much ignorance surrounding this issue and so much misinformation, and it's health insurance companies behind it all. Ask yourself why.

The Supreme Court gives the OK to the Buying and Selling of Congress.
Mark January 21, 2010 as The Day Democracy Died. All that's left to do is to get Don McLean to do a song.
From Texas Trifles
Yesterday, the Supreme Court overturned a 63 year-old law that restricted what corporations and labor organizations may spend to sway the vote in federal elections.
Under the argument that freedom of speech was being violated, five Supreme Court judges (the same justices that gave us GW Bush by ruling in the 2000 Florida election, BTW) have now effectively placed powerful and wealthy corporations and labor organizations in a position to usurp the voice of the common voter.
When did a non-human thing like a corporation or a labor union get granted an individual right - Freedom of Speech? Do you think the founding fathers had Wal-Mart in mind or Haliburton when they crafted the Bills of Rights?
"The bottom line is, the Supreme Court has just predetermined the winners of next November's election. It won't be the Republican or the Democrats and it won't be the American people; it will be corporate America," Senator Charles Schumer, a Democrat from New York, said.
ED:
Next we will be giving corporations drivers' licenses, and the right to vote. Well maybe not...voting just became irrevelant. But we might see Corporations being denied a legal abortion, or even see gay corporations get married. Who knows where all the craziness will end. I guess eventually we will be paying social Security to Retired Corporations and letting them spend their old age in Homes for Aging Corporations.
What's nuts about this is.... a corporation, by it's very definition, does not die. The people who started it may die, but the corporation goes on unless and until the shareholders move to dissolve it. Since humans ALWAYS die eventually, it should be clear that corporations are not human and should not enjoy the rights that are preserved for our HUMAN citizens.
Keith Olbermann puts it quite chillingly:
Representative Alan Grayson (D.-Fla.) has started an online petition.

From the Supreme Court that gave us GW Bush....
Today was the day that will go down in the history books as the day democracy died.
Now Corporate America can give politicians all the money they want. Citizens can't hope to compete with Corporate Dollars for political Influence. It won't stop unless the very people who are benefitting from all this money pass laws to stop themselves from taking the money. Can you say CONFICT OF INTEREST?
Democracy is over. We might as well quit promoting democratic government around the world because we no longer have it here at home.

Give Me What You Got!
Hey Congress:
Decmocrat or Republican - I Don't Care. Right now I don't have much use for either party.
Listen up, Congress:
Give me What You Got. You work for me. I should have as good as you have. I go to work every day. I pay my taxes.
When it comes to health care, GIVE ME WHAT YOU GOT!
I'm happy to pay what you pay. Just GIVE ME WHAT YOU GOT.
What's the great secret nobody in the media has been willing to investigate? If you know what Congress set up for themselves in the way of healthcare there would be a citizens revolt. They want that kept quiet I guess.
Thanks to Whoopi Goldberg for expressing her sentiments about health care (which matched mine exactly only I was a lot wordier about it) and boiling it down to a simple "Hey Congress - Gimme what you got!"

Hey Rush!
One of us was the Emergency room recently. Looked to me like Kidney Stones. Turns out I was right.
The care was just dandy.
The Date was 12-30. The deductable hadn't been met. The bill came today form the hospital. Allthe doctor bills aren't here yet.
Total Hospital Bill: Pushing 6 grand.
Disallowed becasue insurance says they charged too much. About a grand.
Due about 5 grand.
Deductable 2 grand
Balance 3 grand.
Insurance pays 80% - $2400.
We pay deduct and 20% copay $2600.
Two days later is New Years.
Deductable starts all over.
Sucks.
I guess if I made $100,000 a DAY for lying to America I wouldn't notice the $2600, but I don't so I do.
But hey, Rush...we have no complaints about the medical care. We just complain about the fact that it's gonna bankrupt us, and then we won't be able to get any medical care. One more thing, Rush.
You're a prick.

If there was ever any doubt that insurance companies are against Health Care Reform
...this pretty much tells the tale. Big Health Care Companies Stock prices surged when it started looking like they would get to continue to rip off individual Americans.
Welcome to America. Bend Over.
"Health care has been the best performer this session. It is currently up 2.1% amid speculation that a Republican election to the vacant Massachusetts Senate seat could stall or stymie health care reform. Managed care providers have responded with a 4.1% gain."

Today is Religious Freedom Day
And it's a great day to denounce the loudmouth Fundamentalist Christians with their so-called Family First values. We've all seen how they turn out to be the same people that get caught propositioning sex to members of their own sex in airport bathrooms, and sleeping with staffers, and working on marriage #4 or 5 and so on. It's sickening.
It makes me angry that they have hijacked Christianity and are using it to try to control and frighten and lord it over all the rest of us who actually ARE Christians.
I propose that the rest of us (the majority of the population...remember us?) tell them to clean up their own act before they preach to us anymore.
And I personally think the next person who claims to have a direct hotline to God and thereby be God's handpicked spokesman should be sent along to Heaven with instructions to bring back an affidavit signed by God stating that God wishes them to speak for HIM. What a load of crap these people speak. I talk to God now and then myself, and God tells me they are all quacks and he's sending them all to hell.
Jesus didn't die on the cross so some fake-religious ass could get rich by bilking the poor in His name.
It's Religious Freedom Day. Believe what you like, but try to not be stupid about it. God gave you a brain. He probably did so with the intention that you would use it.

Gov Perry turns down Federal Education guidelines and 700 Million Bucks
Okay - he says he won't sign on for guidelines that haven't even been written yet. Fair enough.
Problem is, he's not doing anything to fix the education system in Texas. Our schools rank in the bottom 10%
nationwide consistently. There's a problem here. Our state leadership should quit playing games and govern, and by GOD solve it. We've had excuses for years - Political Party doesn't matter...the citizens keep getting excuses rather than results. So here's my plan. It's so simple and obvious that our governor, if he has any brains at all, will steal it and run with it and take credit for it. I don't care as long as he actually fixes the system. So here's what we do:
We're in the bottom 10% of states with respect to educational achievement, and we want to be in the top 10% instead. What we do is, we take a look at what the states in the top 10% are doing, and JUST DO THAT. If we do, we will find that either our students do better or we just have dumber kids. If we just have dumber kids, it probably means they are the genetic result of dumber parents. I personally suspect this will prove to be the case, 'cause there's a whole lotta dumb out there alrighty. But if it's not the case, then we fixed the system. I don't remember if it was Yogi Berra or Forrest Gump that said "You can see a lot just by watching", but that's true. Go see what works and then do it back home, Rick. Or Kay, Or Bill, Or whoever wins and wants to go for it.
Kinky Friedman was right. How hard can it be?
Duh

CraZY!
Is anyone else mad about the fact that the religious crazies have stolen the Christian religion?
It's not theirs. To be a Christian is to be kind and forgiving and accepting of the faults of others. At the very least, to be a Christian is to have faith that you can just let people be as long as they don't harm you and yours, and let GOD sort out whatever punishment they may require when the day of reckoning comes.
Yaknow, there's already a lot of strains of Christians. I propose that we introduce a new one. I'm gonna call it the Christian Crazies. They got religion. They know they're right with God. They believe in right to life and the death penalty. They are all for democracy unless their guy loses the election, then they throw tea parties and temper tantrums and would be perfectly happy to suspend democracy. They know anyone who doesn't agree with them right down the line is going to hell. And all the rest of us know they're CRAZY.

I thought Pat Robertson died.....
Haiti had an earthquake because slaves made a pact with the devil 200 years ago for their freedom?
Wow!
I hate to think how much trouble the rest of us are in considering all of the various pacts that have been made with Dick Cheney over the years.

Thought We Were Closing Gitmo?
Obama promised. He didn't know he was going to get resounding NO's from every state in which he wanted to build a maximum security prison. I bet it sucks to be a democratic president these days.
SO how about the District of Columbia. It's not a state. It's Federal Property. Buidl it there. Or maybe in one of our Territories, like Puerto Rico. It could be sorta like Australia was for England in the old days.
Mr Pres....I know you have had a full plate but it really and truly might be a good idea to focus a bit on getting SOMETHING done. I don't think you realized when you came to office that you couldn't just provide leadership and say, "Let's do this because it's smart and worthwhile and good for everyone" and expect our worse than useless Congress to actually DO SOMETHING.
You also might want to pass the word to the Democrats in Congress that won't line up and vote as Democrats because they are afraid that they won't get re-elected - tell them that we're not going to re=elect them anyway. Republicans sure as hell won't vote for them and all of is angry Democrats aren't going to vote for the lousy traitors, and probably less than half the independents are gonna vote for them so they are just flat gonna LOSE. The democratic party needs to learn about dancing with the one that brung 'em.
Just a thought.

Rush Got Sick
Rush Limbaug was in the hospital recently. He had chest pain. then he got out and went on the air saying we don't need health care reform becasue he got wonderful health treatment.
That's a classic example of why nobody should ever listen to Rush Limbang. NOBODY ever claimed that you can't get good medical treatment in this country when you need it, especially if, like Rush, you have a cadillac insurance policy and money is no object.
THAT WAS NEVER THE ISSUE IN HEALTH CARE REFORM. RUSH LIMBAUGH KNOWS THIS.
HE just repackaged the issue as he frequently does to make the facts match his cause of the day.
Health care reform is about making health care affordable and available to those who previously couldn't get coverage or couldn't afford it.
I can just see all the dittoheads out there going "duh - no healthcare reform...Rush said we dont' need it cause he got good treatment." You gotta wonder at people who will mindlessly follow someone who's making about $100,000 a DAY by going on the air and lying to them.
I dont blame Rush. I'm pretty sure I'd go on the radio and lie my teeth out for $100,00 a day. But he doesn't just lie to them. These people let Rush Limbaugh be their BRAINS. In that respect Rush Limbaugh reminds me of another famous fella - Charile Manson.
